We had the great pleasure of accompanying our two close friends on their “baby-moon” earlier this April. For those that may not be familiar with a “baby-moon” (because I sure wasn’t) it’s a trip you take before you have a baby. Sort of a last big cabang!
Our Savannah trip was packed with food, sights, tours, food, walking and lots of eating! We made sure to make a stop at all the “famous” spots around the historic area. Movies like Forest Gump and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil were filmed there. Taking a ghost tour is a must and even a day tour is pretty cool. Both our hubbies are big history enthusiasts so we made stops at some of the local forts and enjoyed hearing all about how the city was born back in the 1700’s.
One of our favorite things (besides all the eating) was getting to walk everywhere. We really had to with how much food we were taking in, we wouldn’t have been able to fit on the plane had we not walked miles everyday! We definitely would say we’d gladly travel back to this quaint part of the country the first chance we get. I vote on retirement on one of the squares but I’m not sure I could get Justin out of Texas.
If you’d like a list of most of the places we ate, where we stayed and some of the things we did, check out the bottom of the post so you can plan your trip to Savannah, GA with ease! J Don’t forget to let me know when you’re going so I can meet you there!
Day 1, Thursday – Travel – Arrival and rent the car (had to be an SUV to make room for the pregnant lady in the back + I don’t quite know how to pack lightly). Lunch at B. Matthews for some delicious fried green tomato’s and lemonade’s after we unloaded at our hotel, The Hampton Inn(classer than it sounds, promise) central located on the River and within wonderful proximity to our dinner spot – The Pink House (girls chose this one). We took a ghost tour this night also. I wouldn’t recommend the one we took for a few reasons….BUT there are many other very interesting ones out there! J
Day 2, Friday – Savannah Day – Breakfast at the hotel, morning Jog and then a day seeing the sights. One of the best things we did was take the Old Town TrollyTour. We learned so much and actually didn’t’ have to walk this part. We toured the Owens Thomas House had lunch and walked to Forsyth park for the first time. Dinner at Crystal Beer Parlor (boy’s chose this one, could ya tell?)
Day 3, Saturday – Tybee Island – We headed out to Tybee Island that is about a 20-minute drive if youdon’tstop. However, we stopped. We had to check out the Forts, Pulaski and Jackson which were actually quite impressive and showed of a, Not-for-The-Faint-At-Heart-Cannon-Demonstration. Ate Lunch at AJ’s and made our stop by one of the most photographed lighthouses in the US. We made our stop by one of the largest graveyards in the state, Bonaventure. It was actually very beautiful and strangely peaceful. Wrapped up the day with dinner at The Public.
Day 4, Sunday – Couples Day – We thought that since it was supposed to be Matt and Ashley’s “baby-moon” and had recently been my Birthday, we’d take the day doing our “own thing” that lasted a few hours and then we were back together and realized we had just done all the same things only in different order. Brunch was served at Gryphon Tea Room. Then the House tour I had been waiting for the home of the legendary Juliette Gordon Lowe. She was the founder of Girl Scouts and her house actually may have been one of the most educational and detailed tours we went on.
Day 5, Monday – Travel – Morning breakfast at Clary’s, I’m pretty sure we sat exactly where John Cusack did while filming! That Crab cake Benedicts just may have been the best I ever have and ever will have in my life! Strolled to Forsythe Park one last time then headed back to the airport. We wrapped it all up with dinner at La Madeline in Houston, TX.
